Custom Orthotics in Chicago

Foot pain doesn’t have to be your normal. If you’ve been through drugstore insoles, rest, and stretching with little to show for it, the problem is likely mechanical — and a custom orthotic made for your specific foot is usually what finally fixes it. At Braceman P&O, we’ve been fitting custom orthotics in Chicago for over 25 years. Every pair starts with a proper biomechanical assessment, a precise cast or 3D scan of your foot, and a prescription written for your condition — not a generic arch type.

Conditions we Treat with Custom Orthotics

Most foot and lower limb pain has a mechanical root — the way your foot moves, loads, and compensates with every step. Custom orthotics in Chicago address that root rather than just managing symptoms. Below are the conditions we see most often and how orthotics help each one.

Flat Feet and Overpronation

Flat feet and overpronation cause the foot to roll inward with every step, sending strain up to the ankle, knee, hip, and lower back. Custom orthotics in Chicago correct that inward roll at the source before it affects the joints above.

Plantar Fasciitis and Heel Pain

Plantar fasciitis is the sharp heel pain that hits hardest on your first steps in the morning. Our Chicago custom orthotics control heel motion and support the arch throughout your gait, reducing the tension that keeps the fascia inflamed.

Bunions

Bunions develop when the big toe joint is pushed out of alignment over time. Custom orthotics won't reverse the deformity, but they offload pressure from the joint and correct the mechanics making it worse.

Diabetic Foot Care

Diabetic foot care requires pressure redistribution to prevent ulcers and skin breakdown caused by reduced sensation. We provide Medicare-covered custom diabetic orthotics in Chicago under the DMEPOS benefit for qualifying patients.

Our medical shoes in Chicago are recommended for Plantar fasciitis, flat feet & overpronation, diabetic foot care, arthritis & joint pain, heel Pain & arch pain, and post-surgery recovery.

How It Works

We listen first

Where the pain is, how long you’ve had it, what you’ve already tried, what your day looks like.

Biomechanical exam

We check your foot structure, range of motion, and callus patterns — which tell you a lot about where pressure is concentrated.

Gait analysis & Cast

We watch you walk, usually barefoot and then in your regular shoes. Most mechanical problems only show up in motion. We also take a precise impression of your foot in the corrected position.

Fitting and adjustment

Your orthotics are ready in 2–3 weeks. When they arrive, you come back, we fit them in your shoes, and make any on-site adjustments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Looking for the right custom orthotics treatment in Chicago? Below are answers to common questions about custom insoles, arch support, fittings, insurance coverage, and how our expert team can help you find the ideal solution for foot pain, alignment, and all-day comfort.

How long do custom orthotics last?

Functional orthotics typically last 2–5 years. Diabetic accommodative orthotics need replacing every 1–2 years as the cushioning compresses. Children’s orthotics need replacing every 12–18 months as feet grow.

Do I need a doctor's referral?

No referral needed to book with us. Some insurance plans require a physician’s prescription for coverage — we’ll flag this when we verify your benefits.

What Insurance Providers Does Your Clinic Accept?

We work with multiple insurance providers to make your treatment as accessible as possible. Our team will help verify your coverage and guide you through the process.

How long until I feel a difference?

Most patients notice improvement within 2–4 weeks of consistent wear. There’s a break-in period — start with a few hours a day and build up. Some arch soreness early on is normal.
